Persuasion NLP: Seven ways to Influence with Integrity Using the Most Powerful Mental Communication Tools on the Planet

Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, is the study of the science of the mind – both conscious and subconscious (or unconscious, as it is often referred to).

By learning how the mind works, what drives people, how the mind communicates and more, you can learn to become a communication master.

I remember when first started to learn NLP, one of the first things I discovered was that the unconscious mind does not process negatives. It literally doesn't understand concepts like no, don't, won't, shouldn't, can't, mustn't, stop. I took this knowledge home and began telling my kids what to do, instead of what not to do. People were always exclaiming how amazing my children were, and how great a dad I must be because they always listened!

And that's just one example! Using principles like this has allowed me to connect with, influence, lead and to help empower tens of thousands of people.

There are several components of NLP that allow you to become better at influence and persuasion...

Conversational Hypnosis

The language that allows you to use hypnotic principles in everyday conversation is called Conversational Hypnosis, or sometimes referred to as covert hypnosis. Developed by famed psychiatrist Milton H. Erickson M.D., this language allows you to communicate with the conscious mind, while also covertly communicating with the subconscious mind. It's one of the most powerful tools for persuasion.

Eye Patterns

One of the first discoveries in the field of NLP is that people move their eyes in certain directions when accessing different parts of the mind. For instance, when someone is thinking of an image, visually, they will look in one specific direction. When thinking of a sound, auditorially, they will look another. By learning the eye accessing cues from NLP, you can learn to read how people are thinking, giving you a huge advantage in any situation.

Representational Systems

The founders of NLP discovered that people process the world using their preferred sense, or representational system. Some people process the world more through their visual sense. Some people are more auditory. Some process everything through their feelings (kinesthetic). When you can learn what a person's primary or preferred rep systems are, you're more able to communicate in a language their mind understands and is stimulated by, allowing your messages to go in with less resistance.

The Eight Pillars of Influence

While not technically part of NLP, the eight pillars of influence (rapport, commitment and consistency, reciprocity, contrast, perception, social proof, authority and scarcity) are tightly coupled with NLP techniques, making them even more effective.

Eliciting Values

Values drive virtually everything we do and how we feel about those things. They are what's important to us, at a subconscious level. By learning to listen to keywords and elicit values from people, you can learn to tap into these deep unconscious motivators, making you far more influential. If you are a sales-person, a leader, a parent, a manager, or anyone else, this principle will make miracles.

Meta Programs

Meta programs are like programs that run in our mind that dictate how we interpret and react to the world. By learning how people's personalities are constructed using these programs, you'll understand people better than probably even their closest family and friends.

How to Learn NLP

In the past, NLP trainers and trainings were like part of some secret club. It cost literally thousands (I paid $22k for my NLP education) to learn these life-changing tools.
